Opened on 3 September 2011, Serangoon Bus Interchange is a bus interchange that brings public bus service to residents in Serangoon New Town in Singapore. The bus interchange is within walking distance from Serangoon MRT. Serangoon Bus Interchange has 8 services and 17 bus bays. This is the second air conditioned bus interchange to open along the North East Line and the first on the Circle Line.
Rewind back down the years, Serangoon Bus Interchange opened along Serangoon Central on 10 March 1988. At that time, Serangoon Bus Interchange took over from the previous Serangoon Gardens Bus Interchange which faced overcrowding. A temporary bus terminal was built along Serangoon Avenue 3 then. During then, Serangoon Bus Interchange has entrance and exit located along Serangoon Central.
On 25 November 2010, after NEX shopping mall was opened , the old Serangoon bus interchange continued to operate amidst congestion at Serangoon Avenue 2. There were also carpark problems and large crowds in NEX shopping mall.
Subsequently, Serangoon Bus Interchange was moved to the new bus interchange within NEX shopping mall directly above Serangoon. This makes it the fifth bus interchange to be air conditioned and the second along the North East Line and first along the Circle Line, at that time. Interestingly, Serangoon Bus Interchange was the first to have glass walls instead of cement walls facing the bus bays. Public waiting for buses will be aware of the departure time of buses. This is an improvement from the earlier air conditioned bus interchange.
Come Sep 2016, the new residential condominium by City Development Limited, Forestwoods will be launched.
